An end of life doula works as a support in many aspects of the end of life phase. At a time when a family is stretched thinly and feeling overwhelmed, doulas fill gaps in care, completing a circle of support for the person who is dying and their loved ones.

The doula's goal is to provide thoughtful, proactive support to ensure the best quality of life possible, right through to the end.

  • Facilitation of end of life planning

  • Mediation and advocacy so that the dying person's wishes are honoured

  • Comfort measures for the dying

  • Emotional support

  • Life review and legacy project support

  • Education, information and resources

  • Respite for the caregivers

  • Support in arranging after death home care and needs

  • Holding vigil during the final hours of a person's life

  • Planning of the funeral or wake
